Activities

Congratulations,
you have found a seed packet!

Some of you may have actively searched for a seed packet or maybe you have spontaneously found one walking around. Whatever magical pathway has led you here, we are happy you have taken the time to visit us online.

Welcome to your seed seeker community! On this page, we will be sharing fun activities for you and your new plant friend.

Getting to know your seeds

Your tiny seed is a “Garden Bean Tendergreen,” also known as Bush Snaps. Seedlings will start to spring from the soil in 7-14 days and in 55 days-ish, they will grow into delicious 6” stringless pods that can be eaten fresh as is, preserved into pickles, or frozen for another time.

Nice to meet you, seeds!

Plant your seeds in warm soil 3 inches apart and 1 inch deep. If you are super eager to meet your leafy green companions, you can also accelerate germination by soaking them overnight before planting.

Once they have been placed in their new home, provide approximately 1 inch of water for them to feel comfortable.

Keep checking if your plant is thirsty or not and depending on how quickly the soil dries out, water it regularly one or two times per week. Your plant also loves to sunbathe for full 6+ hours per day.

What are the names of your seeds?

Make a seed portrait.

Draw or paint your seed to celebrate. What do the seeds look like? What shape are they? Are they circular or rectangular? Are they pointy or round? Are they rough or smooth to touch? What color are your seeds?

Decorate your seed’s new home! Are you going to write their names on each pot?

Write a letter to your seeds and future plants, such as “Dear seeds, I am so happy we got to meet. I hope you like your new home I made for you” or “Dear plant, I can’t wait to meet you soon!”

As much as you want to meet your seedlings as soon as possible, rushing them with more water won’t make them grow faster as they will let you know when they are ready to sprout!

Oh, hello there, leafy greens!

Is your seedling starting to show? Is a sprout poking out of the soil to say hello? Super exciting! Once your plant has 4 leaves, thin to 1 plant every 4 inches.

Time to start your own plant diary! What does your plant look like today? Does it look different from yesterday? How many leaves does it have?

Make a plant ruler to measure how fast it is growing!

What is your favorite book? Read it with your plant.

What is your favorite music? Listen to it with your plant.

What is your favorite song? Sing it with your plant.

Can you make your own plant song? What does that sound like? Is it a song about being green? Is it a song that is about being a bean?

As much as you want to meet your seedlings as soon as possible, rushing them with more water won’t make them grow faster as they will let you know when they are ready to sprout!

Is it already time to harvest?
Thank you, plant!

When your plant is ready for harvest, pick early and often to help it grow more! Sow every 2 weeks until 8 weeks before fall frost.

How do you shake your plant to harvest the pods? Shake, shake, shake. Can you shake and move your body like a plant or a bean?

Your plants wouldn’t have been able to do it without the sun, water, soil and especially your love and care for it. Now, your yummy beans are ready to be eaten. Do the “thank you, plant” dance!
